SHRIMP EXPRESSION

Micah's Place unveils their first-time community art project, Shrimp Expression.  Fiberglass shrimp sculptures, each whimsically decorated by a local artist, have been installed in the downtown Fernandina Beach area and on Amelia Island.  Each beautifully adorned sculpture is unique and has its own individual personality.  We welcome the public to enjoy viewing each one and admire the imagination and creativity of these icons.  Habitat maps are available at the Chamber, the Visitor's Center depot, and on our website.

In addition to the public display of the shrimp sculptures, there will be numerous contests for residents and visitors to enjoy throughout the project and chances to win prizes.  There will be different contests and prizes during the months of June, July, August and September.  The grand prize drawing in October 2010 will be Day Park Hopper tickets for a family of four to Walt Disney World.  Photo contests, a video contest, and scavenger hunts are just a few of the community-wide activities planned.   Please view the rules and regulations page for all of the contests.

In September 2010, the Shrimp will retreat to a temporary home to rest and get freshened up.  October 16, 2010, the shrimp sculptures available for purchase will be auctioned at our spectacular ShrimpElation Celebration. There they will find happy permanent homes. Tickets to the auction will go on sale to the public in August. If you would like to take part in this fun-filled evening, please call (904) 491-6364, ext. 100 to make your reservation.

Follow along with the project through this website, by joining us on Micah's Place Facebook, and following us on Twitter http://twitter.com/shrimpart. If you have an interest in purchasing your very own shrimp, please contact Kelly Monti, Project Coordinator at Micah's Place. Shrimp Expression is a unique project with multiple goals: raise funding for prevention and intervention services for Micah's Place; create awareness for domestic violence prevention; support local artists and their endeavors; and support tourism initiatives.
